Nilson Dias's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cafu Linhares read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 4th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nilson Dias in the 13th minute of play forced São Paulo Luz's goalkeeper Cafu Linhares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rômulo de Souza received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Cafu Linhares tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Nilson Dias took the ball and in the 18 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Cafu Linhares. Cafu Linhares dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. 25 minutes into the match, São Paulo Luz's goal looked a bit too open when Nilson Dias came free, but Cafu Linhares reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After recieving a nice pass, Mauriti's Danilo Azevedo tried to score from far away in the 27th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. If Rômulo de Souza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 31st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. São Paulo Luz's Cafu Linhares played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rômulo de Souza in the 35th minute of play. Nilson Dias struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Cafu Linhares didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mauriti. In the 39th minute of the match Frank de Medeiros shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Cafu Linhares showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nilson Dias in the 40th minute of play forced São Paulo Luz's goalkeeper Cafu Linhares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Luís Guilherme Cordeiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cipriano Prado having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in São Paulo Luz's zone, Rômulo de Souza stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cafu Linhares came out of the goal and Rômulo de Souza tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Nilson Dias made a kick off. Conrado Moraes was shown his second yellow card after 55 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rômulo de Souza got free with Cafu Linhares in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Cipriano Prado showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luís Guilherme Cordeiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. If Nilson Dias had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Mauriti getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Nilson Dias hit a great ball. Nilson Dias fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cafu Linhares having to interfere. 72 minutes into the match, São Paulo Luz's goalkeeper Cafu Linhares had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Rômulo de Souza. If Rômulo de Souza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 82nd match minute, São Paulo Luz was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antônio Santos to maneuver through the defense. Cafu Linhares made a fantastic save in the 83rd minute, when Rômulo de Souza sent off a good shot on target. Rômulo de Souza struck a weak shot in the 86th minute. Cafu Linhares didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Mauriti. In the 91st minute, Dráusio da Cunha hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 92 minutes of play, Mauriti's Rômulo de Souza made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cafu Linhares was left in no man's land by his defense there! 95 minutes into the game, Rômulo de Souza cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Cafu Linhares was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Mauriti's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
