In the 6th minute, Delfim Paes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 12 minutes into the game, Nelsinho Batista was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Capistrano's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Atlético Goianiense the free kick. The supporters of Atlético Goianiense booed when Capistrano was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nelsinho Batista didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 12 played minutes, Atlético Goianiense's Ronaldinho Reis shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Ezequiel Mineiro came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Atlético Goianiense reached it. Ezequiel Mineiro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gilberto Mandrak in the 14th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 16th minute, Delfim Paes managed to get in a good position for a shot. Atlético Goianiense's supporters rose to their feet, but Delfim Paes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ezequiel Mineiro breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tales de Brito in the 19th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ezequiel Mineiro prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 22ndth minute of the game Delfim Paes who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Capistrano's Ezequiel Mineiro was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Carlos Mattos who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 25thth minute tested the skills of Edvaldo Guedes when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Tales de Brito sent away a hard shot on goal in the 28th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Carlos Mattos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Edvaldo Guedes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Tomé Berger came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the Capistrano fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomé Berger couldn't finish the play. Murilo Botelho's late challenge caught a Capistrano's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. But to his dismay, Tales de Brito quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Delfim Paes to make the kick off. Edvaldo Guedes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomé Berger in the 52nd minute of the match. 53 minutes into the game, Gilberto Mandrak was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Atlético Goianiense's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Capistrano the free kick.
