Spectators: 32 (Terracing: 25, Seating: 7, VIP seats: 0) 5 minutes into the match, BOTAFOGO's goal looked a bit too open when Juninho Aguiar came free, but Valdomiro Vargas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Raimundo Paraibano came up free with the goalie in the 8th minute, the BOTAFOGO fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Raimundo Paraibano couldn't finish the play. Ronaldinho Simões kicked well hit freekick during the 9th minute of the match. Gremio FPA's Juninho Aguiar got a good chance for a goal in the 17th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 19th minute the ball was on its way in behind BOTAFOGO's goalkeeper Valdomiro Vargas, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Natã Godoi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 21st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Juninho Aguiar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 26th minute, one of BOTAFOGO:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for BOTAFOGO. Roberto Arantes placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! Juninho Aguiar recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 30th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 31st minute the ball was on its way in behind BOTAFOGO's goalkeeper Valdomiro Vargas, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Gremio FPA's Benjamin Quadros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Raimundo Paraibano in the 36th minute of play. In the 38thth minute of the game Váldson Guerra who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Gremio FPA's Benjamin Quadros was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Valdomiro Vargas didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 44th minute, which inside left pole to 1-0. Natã Godoi received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 49th minute. Valdomiro Vargas tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The wind increased when Raimundo Paraibano made the kick off in the second half. After 55 minutes, Raimundo Paraibano made it 1-1 with a short kick to the right side. Gremio FPA's Benjamin Quadros tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Raimundo Paraibano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 61 minutes into the match, Gremio FPA's goalkeeper Benjamin Quadros had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Váldson Guerra. Benjamin Quadros took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Raimundo Paraibano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 70th minute the ball was on its way in behind BOTAFOGO's goalkeeper Valdomiro Vargas, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. A collision led to BOTAFOGO getting a freekick after 74 minutes play. Diego Esteves hit a great ball. Juninho Aguiar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Váldson Guerra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 83 minutes into the match, BOTAFOGO's goal looked a bit too open when Juninho Aguiar came free, but Valdomiro Vargas reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Valdomiro Vargas stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Juninho Aguiar's shot from short distance in the 88th minute. Valdomiro Vargas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Natã Godoi in the 92nd minute of play. After 92 minutes, Sydney Salgado mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the BOTAFOGO and the Gremio FPA players grew even worse after the yellow card. Valdomiro Vargas came out of the goal in the 94th minute to try and stop a shot by Gremio FPA's Natã Godoi. But to his dismay, Natã Godoi quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1.
