In the 37th minute the ball was on its way in behind Caveira Taubate FC's goalkeeper Osmar Varela, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Basílio Rocha's late challenge caught a Grêmio FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Basílio Rocha helped the player get up and apologised. Basílio Rocha kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. After having played for 42 minutes, Dé Marinho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Grêmio FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dé Marinho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dé Marinho in the 44th minute of play forced Caveira Taubate FC's goalkeeper Osmar Varela to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Elivélton Jacinto stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Caveira Taubate FC booed when Grêmio FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alfredo Branco didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dé Marinho scored 0-2 in the 66th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Osmar Varela, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 69 played minutes Caveira Taubate FC got a freekick which was hit by Dino Fernandez. Elivélton Jacinto recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 72nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Vitinho Nogueira sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 78 played minutes Caveira Taubate FC got a freekick which was hit by Valdir Sarmento. After having played for 83 minutes, Dráuzio Galvão managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Caveira Taubate FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dráuzio Galvão was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Caveira Taubate FC's Osmar Varela played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Elivélton Jacinto in the 85th minute of play. Osmar Varela showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dé Marinho in the 86th minute of the match. The Caveira Taubate FC fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Grêmio FC were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
