In the 3rd minute Jefferson Pombal shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Osmar Varela saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, S. E. Palestra's Luciano Galvão got a free kick in the 9th minute. Osmar Varela showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jefferson Pombal in the 13th minute of the match. S. E. Palestra's Joaquim Alvarenga played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dráuzio Galvão in the 19th minute of play. Osmar Varela showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jefferson Pombal in the 24th minute of the match. After 28 minutes of play, Caveira Taubate FC's Dráuzio Galvão made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Joaquim Alvarenga was left in no man's land by his defense there! 37 minutes into the match, S. E. Caveira Taubate FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Vitinho Nogueira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Genílson Romero came up free with the goalie in the 40th minute, the S. E. Palestra fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Genílson Romero couldn't finish the play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gabriel Leal in the 45th minute of play forced Caveira Taubate FC's goalkeeper Osmar Varela to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jefferson Pombal was extremely unlucky when he, in the 47th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Vitinho Nogueira stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Joaquim Alvarenga came out and tried to block the shot, but Vitinho Nogueira slotted it home off the left post making it 2-3 in the 92nd minute. Caveira Taubate FC were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over S. E. Palestra's much stronger midfield.
