After having played for 21 minutes, Maurício Vargas managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Kalay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Maurício Vargas was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 29 minutes into the match, Gira EC's goal looked a bit too open when João Carlos Prata came free, but Charles Trancoso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gugu Meireles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Henrique Ortiz in the 31st minute of play. Charles Trancoso made a fantastic save in the 33rd minute, when Maurício Vargas sent off a good shot on target. If Maurício Vargas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Rui Braga during the 36th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Charles Trancoso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Carlos Prata, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. 76 minutes into the game, Leandro Albuquerque was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player.
