With a little luck, E.C.Vira Copos's Vágner Trigo got control of the ball when Fred Netto tried to sneak it across the goal line. 7 minutes into the match, E.C. XVI De Março's goal looked a bit too open when Tomé Saldanha came free, but Mathias Prestes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 7 minutes into the game, Raúl Amorim was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. E.C. XVI De Março's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave E.C.Vira Copos the free kick. A collision led to E.C.Vira Copos getting a freekick after 10 minutes play. Tomé Saldanha hit a great ball. Fred Netto blasted a shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Vágner Trigo having to make a save. Antônio Tinoco sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 19 minutes into the match, Antônio Tinoco notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of E.C. XVI De Março's Mathias Prestes. Mathias Prestes was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 27th play minute Fred Netto came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Vágner Trigo. 1-1. Vágner Trigo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fernandinho Alcântara, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. E.C. XVI De Março's Fred Netto got a good chance for a goal in the 31st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 46 minutes into the match, E.C. XVI De Março's Fred Netto sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Vágner Trigo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a defensive mix-up in E.C.Vira Copos's zone, Frédson Neves stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Vágner Trigo came out of the goal and Frédson Neves tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tomé Saldanha was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fred Netto in the 53rd minute of play forced E.C.Vira Copos's goalkeeper Vágner Trigo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 58th minute Tomé Saldanha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mathias Prestes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fred Netto's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Vágner Trigo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 63rd minute of play. Vágner Trigo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fernandinho Alcântara, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Vágner Trigo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fred Netto in the 74th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Fernandinho Alcântara in the 80th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Vágner Trigo prevented the ball from getting in the gole. E.C. XVI De Março's defense didn't have a chance, in the 82nd minute, when Tomé Saldanha scored to the left of an out of position Mathias Prestes, making the score, 1-2. Antônio Tinoco in the 87thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Mathias Prestes, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. E.C. XVI De Março's Fernandinho Alcântara got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Fred Netto's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Vágner Trigo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 95th minute of play.
