The Vila Palmeiras FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Afonso Trancoso should have stopped the shot. Corujas AD's Ronaldinho Corrêa got a good chance for a goal in the 37th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Celsinho Faustino made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from João Carlos Mattos in the 42nd minute of play. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
