Spectators: 32 (Terracing: 25, Seating: 7, VIP seats: 0) Fundao's Tostão Batista started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Tostão Batista received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Luizinho Pontes tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Fluminense's Luizinho Pontes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luís Guilherme Pinho in the 9th minute of play. Luizinho Pontes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luís Guilherme Pinho in the 14th minute of play. Luizinho Pontes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luís Guilherme Pinho in the 17th minute of the match. 24 minutes into the game, Raphael Paraense was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Fundao's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Fluminense the free kick. In the 25th match minute, Fundao was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Raphael Paraense to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Fundao booed when Fluminense was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cristiano Barreto didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tostão Batista in the 33rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Luizinho Pontes saved Fluminense from getting behind. After 38 played minutes Fundao got a freekick which was hit by Raphael Paraense. In the 39th minute of the match Cido Goiano shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Cacá de Almeida showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 41st minute, Carlos Augusto Prata hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 43rd minute, Luís Guilherme Pinho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 48th minute the ball was on its way in behind Fundao's goalkeeper Cacá de Almeida, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Aníbal Saldanha to make the kick off. Tostão Batista recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 60th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 65 minutes into the match, Fluminense's goalkeeper Luizinho Pontes had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Luís Guilherme Pinho. Luizinho Pontes showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tostão Batista in the 67th minute of the match. Luizinho Pontes made a fantastic save in the 73rd minute, when Luís Guilherme Pinho sent off a good shot on target. Aílton Couto's late challenge caught a Fundao's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Aílton Couto helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Fluminense getting a freekick after 74 minutes play. Aílton Couto hit a great ball. Luís Guilherme Pinho blasted a shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Luizinho Pontes having to make a save. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Tostão Batista managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fundao's supporters rose to their feet, but Tostão Batista was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Luizinho Pontes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tostão Batista in the 81st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Luizinho Pontes prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Aníbal Saldanha received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Cacá de Almeida tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Fluminense getting a freekick after 91 minutes play. After 97 minutes Fluminense's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Válter Seco who took care of the corner kick. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Fluminense fans cheered their team off the field, for while Fundao had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
