Afonsinho Magalhães breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Robinho Coutinho charged in rather forcefully in the 25th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The supporters of Meridiano SC booed when Paricatuba SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Robinho Coutinho didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 28 minutes of play, Paricatuba SC's Luís Sá made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Josué Tepedino was left in no man's land by his defense there! 33 minutes into the match, Meridiano SC's goal looked a bit too open when Luís Sá came free, but Josué Tepedino reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, Paricatuba SC's Afonsinho Magalhães got control of the ball when Sílvio Luís da Costa tried to sneak it across the goal line. Romário Massa recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.

The Meridiano SC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Josué Tepedino should have stopped the shot. Josué Tepedino showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Romário Massa in the 82nd minute of the match. In the 84th minute, Robinho Coutinho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bernardo Maia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Afonsinho Magalhães having to interfere. If Bernardo Maia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
