Chicão Fonseca made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Frédson Moura's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Chicão Fonseca read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 12th minute of play. Marcinho Tavares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chicão Fonseca having to interfere. 20 minutes into the match, Marcinho Tavares notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Parnaiba FC's Chicão Fonseca. Chicão Fonseca was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After some careless play in the Parnaiba FC defense, Frédson Moura kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Chicão Fonseca. The Parnaiba FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Chicão Fonseca should have stopped the shot. Ricardo Siqueira kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. Faustão Gaspar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Chicão Fonseca having to interfere. Parnaiba FC's Chicão Fonseca played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcelo Vergílio in the 36th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Marcinho Tavares kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Chicão Fonseca. That made the score 4-0 in the 38 minute of play. 41 minutes into the game, Luiz Fernando Cruz was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Metropolitano's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Parnaiba FC the free kick. A collision led to Metropolitano getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Luiz Fernando Cruz hit a great ball. After 42 played minutes, Parnaiba FC's Rodolfo Rocha shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Silvinho Corrêa came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Parnaiba FC reached it. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-0 at half-time.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Válter Abreu to strike the kick off in the second half. If Frédson Moura had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 54 minutes into the game, Marcinho Tavares cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 5-0. Chicão Fonseca was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. After 64 minutes of play, Metropolitano's Frédson Moura made it 6-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Chicão Fonseca was left in no man's land by his defense there! Manoel Camargo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Manoel Camargo succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 6-1 in the 70th playminute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frédson Moura in the 74th minute of play forced Parnaiba FC's goalkeeper Chicão Fonseca to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Chicão Fonseca showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marcinho Tavares, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. When Metropolitano's Marcinho Tavares in the 77th minute got a chance for a shot 77th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Parnaiba FC's goalie prevented a goal. If Faustão Gaspar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 89th minute, Marcinho Tavares ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Chicão Fonseca was frozen by the shot and now it was 8-1. After a defensive mix-up in Parnaiba FC's zone, Marcinho Tavares stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Chicão Fonseca came out of the goal and Marcinho Tavares tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 96 minutes into the match, Parnaiba FC's goal looked a bit too open when Marcinho Tavares came free, but Chicão Fonseca reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
