Claudinei de Mendonça could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 12th minute of the match, but Jorginho Ceresso made a huge save. Jorginho Ceresso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gilvan Abreu, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. The supporters of Internacional SC booed when Seropedica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ramiro Eger didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some careless play in the Internacional SC defense, Luizinho Medeiros kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nilmar Peres. The Internacional SC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nilmar Peres should have stopped the shot. In the 28th minute, Fred Palmeira got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Raí Soeiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Jorginho Ceresso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Internacional SC getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Ciro Freitas hit a great ball. In the 37th minute, Claudinei de Mendonça got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Nilmar Peres made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Maurinho Cosme in the 43rd minute of play. In the 44th minute, Luizinho Medeiros left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Seropedica fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luizinho Medeiros stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Jorginho Ceresso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Claudinei de Mendonça in the 58th minute of the match. Internacional SC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Fred Palmeira in the 60th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Luizinho Medeiros kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Nilmar Peres. That made the score 1-4 in the 61 minute of play. Ramiro Eger could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 65th minute of the match, but Nilmar Peres made a huge save. 66 minutes into the match, Gilvan Abreu had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jorginho Ceresso. Seropedica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Gilvan Abreu was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-4. In the 69th minute, one of Seropedica:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Seropedica. The referee gave Internacional SC a penalty, 71 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Fred Palmeira, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Seropedica's Jorginho Ceresso. 3-4. After 75 played minutes Seropedica got a freekick which was hit by Luizinho Medeiros. Jorginho Ceresso stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Claudinei de Mendonça's shot from short distance in the 78th minute. Seropedica's Jorginho Ceresso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Claudinei de Mendonça in the 83rd minute of play. With a little luck, Internacional SC's Nilmar Peres got control of the ball when Ramiro Eger tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 95th minute Claudinei de Mendonça shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jorginho Ceresso saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Seropedica were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Internacional SC's much stronger midfield.
