DeMolay FC's Basílio Batista played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by José Augusto Cabral in the 5th minute of play. Natanael Donato fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Douglas Perez having to interfere. Douglas Perez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mazinho Reis, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. Paulo Britto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Douglas Perez having to interfere. If Paulo Britto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 18 minutes of play, Timbiras's José Augusto Cabral made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Basílio Batista was left in no man's land by his defense there! Basílio Batista took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from José Augusto Cabral, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of DeMolay FC booed when Timbiras was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emerson Cardozo didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Luiz Fernando Pena fell near the penalty area in the 36th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Timbiras's protests and gave Luiz Fernando Pena a yellow card for diving instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Simão Sampaio in the 38th minute of play forced DeMolay FC's goalkeeper Basílio Batista to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and José Augusto Cabral made a kick off. DeMolay FC's Basílio Batista proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save DeMolay FC from getting a goal against them. The audience thought a goal was coming when Simão Sampaio got free with Basílio Batista in the 57th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Simão Sampaios short, quick shot in the 81stth minute got Basílio Batista to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After 83 played minutes DeMolay FC got a freekick which was hit by Luís Fábio Souza. Simão Sampaio could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 90th minute of the match, but Basílio Batista made a huge save. Basílio Batista came out of the goal in the 93rd minute to try and stop a shot by Timbiras's Zé Carlos Mangueira. But to his dismay, Zé Carlos Mangueira quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-4. The DeMolay FC manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Timbiras to win.
