The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Joaquim Pinho's late challenge caught a Itaperapoan SS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Mateus Couto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Osmar Vergílio in the 40th minute of play. If Róbson de Alcântara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Róbson de Alcântara stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Renatinho Dante had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 59 minutes into the match, Itaperapoan SS's Renatinho Dante sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Mateus Couto narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Itaperapoan SS's Bernardinho Gerber proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 61st minute of the match, managed to save Itaperapoan SS from getting a goal against them. Róbson de Alcântara received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Itaperapoan SS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Osmar Vergílio was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The Astro MZ supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Astro MZ would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
