Jeferson Zilles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Celsinho Castro in the 19th minute of the match. 21 minutes into the game, Cícero Fonseca was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Montes Claros FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sereno the free kick. Cícero Fonseca hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Diogo Guedes might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rafael da Mata. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Diogo Guedes ran back to his position shaking his head. After some fancy dribbling in the 26th minute, Celsinho Castro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Montes Claros FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Celsinho Castro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jeferson Zilles breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Montes Claros FC's Yuri Tasso got a good chance for a goal in the 28th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 30th match minute, Sereno was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sílvio Luís da Mata to maneuver through the defense. Jeferson Zilles made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dudu Viana in the 31st minute of play. Rafael da Mata didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sereno. In the 40th match minute, Sereno was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Valdemar Cordeiro to maneuver through the defense. 47 minutes into the match, Montes Claros FC's goalkeeper Rafael da Mata had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Diogo Guedes. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

A collision led to Sereno getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Valdemar Cordeiro hit a great ball. The supporters of Montes Claros FC booed when Sereno was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 57 match minutes in a wonderful position. Sílvio Luís da Mata didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cícero Fonseca fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jeferson Zilles having to interfere. Jeferson Zilles was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Celsinho Castro showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-1 in the 62 minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pedro Luís Madureira in the 65th minute of play forced Montes Claros FC's goalkeeper Rafael da Mata to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Diogo Guedes's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rafael da Mata read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 66th minute of play. In the 96th minute Celsinho Castro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jeferson Zilles saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
