Washington Xavier succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-0 in the 30th playminute. Nelson Palmeira made a fantastic save in the 38th minute, when Dida Fonseca sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Putinga getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Dida Fonseca hit a great ball. Cristóvão Alcântara's late challenge caught a Putinga's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Cristóvão Alcântara helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, New York Red Bull's Cristóvão Alcântara got a free kick in the 45th minute. Wellington Pinheiro hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Washington Xavier was the one to do the kick off. Nelson Palmeira made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Washington Xavier in the 51st minute of play. The coaching staff of New York Red Bull protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Claudinei Silveira had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After 73 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for New York Red Bull! Washington Xavier walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. Luís Fábio Queiroz hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. Nelson Palmeira showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from José Augusto Neves in the 80th minute of the match. Wellington Pinheiro hit a great freekick 84 minutes into the match. Wellington Pinheiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out.
