The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Maicon Xavier struck a weak shot in the 3rd minute. Waldemar Viana didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Tebaida. Maicon Xavier recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 5th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. José Carlos Amorim fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Waldemar Viana having to interfere. In the 12th match minute, Tebaida was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maicon Xavier to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 14 minutes, Maicon Xavier managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Tebaida's supporters crossed their fingers, but Maicon Xavier was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 16 minutes into the match, Wales's goal looked a bit too open when José Carlos Amorim came free, but Waldemar Viana reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 16 minutes into the match, José Carlos Amorim had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Waldemar Viana. Wales's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that José Carlos Amorim was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. When César Maia fell near the penalty area in the 18th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Tebaida's protests and gave César Maia a yellow card for diving instead. César Maia hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. When Dadá Queirós came up free with the goalie in the 20th minute, the Wales fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dadá Queirós couldn't finish the play. Walmir Ortiz kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. José Carlos Amorim's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Waldemar Viana read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 39th minute of play. Wales's defense didn't have a chance, in the 41st minute, when Maicon Xavier scored to the left of an out of position Waldemar Viana, making the score, 2-1. Waldemar Viana made an important save on a dangerous shot by Maicon Xavier in the 45th minute. Dadá Queirós sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.

When César Maia was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 51 minutes had been played. After 52 played minutes Tebaida got a freekick which was hit by César Maia. After some fancy dribbling in the 55th minute, Maicon Xavier managed to get in a good position for a shot. Tebaida's supporters rose to their feet, but Maicon Xavier was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Waldemar Viana breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Wales's Waldemar Viana played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maicon Xavier in the 62nd minute of play. Dadá Queirós fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jefferson Britto having to interfere. In the 68th match minute, Wales was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ernani Maranhense to maneuver through the defense. After 79 played minutes Tebaida got a freekick which was hit by David Baptista. Dadá Queirós received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Jefferson Britto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Maicon Xavier fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Waldemar Viana having to interfere. Tebaida's Maicon Xavier got a good chance for a goal in the 94th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. José Carlos Amorim struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Waldemar Viana didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Tebaida. Frédson Vander hit a great freekick 97 minutes into the match.
