Southampton's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Isaltino Passos ran over to the corner to take the kick. If Vicente de Almeida had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vicente de Almeida sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rubineia AD's Pedrinho Guimarães played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edson Martins in the 79th minute of play. Edson Martins received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. Pedrinho Guimarães tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ernani de Moraes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Murillo Rodrigues could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 87th minute of the match, but Acácio Pereira made a huge save. Waldir Alagoano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pedrinho Guimarães having to interfere. Southampton walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
