Meriti SS's Frank Costa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Júnior Proença in the 6th minute of play. Frank Costa made a fantastic save in the 8th minute, when Fabrício Alagoano sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Meriti SS getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Luís Eduardo Alcântara hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Caninha's José Carlos Paulista got a free kick in the 13th minute. Gilberto Meirelles fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Abel Furtado having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Romário Nóbrega in the 23rd minute of play forced Meriti SS's goalkeeper Frank Costa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Meriti SS's Frank Costa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Júnior Proença in the 25th minute of play. After having played for 33 minutes, Júnior Proença managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Caninha's supporters crossed their fingers, but Júnior Proença was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Fabrício Alagoano got free with Frank Costa in the 38th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by José Carlos Paulista during the 45th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Abel Furtado had in the 47thth minute some difficulties stopping Percy Santos's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball.

Luís Eduardo Alcântara's late challenge caught a Caninha's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. In the 62nd minute of the match Leonardo Machado sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Frank Costa skillfully saved the ball. After 71 minutes of play Meriti SS's Luís Eduardo Alcântara was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. In the 91st minute the ball was on its way in behind Meriti SS's goalkeeper Frank Costa, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar.
