In the 31st minute, Deivid Cerezo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 34 minutes into the match, C R Flamengo's goal looked a bit too open when Clemente Teles came free, but Edgar Costa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. C R Flamengo's Edgar Costa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Clemente Teles in the 37th minute of play. When the match had gone on for 41 minutes, Deivid Cerezo took a quick shot and it went in 1-1 without a chance for Caetano França to make any attempt to save it. Deivid Cerezo struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Caetano França didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for C R Flamengo. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

The wind increased when Sílvio Luís Ortiz made the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Ripeira getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Alfredinho Marinho hit a great ball. After 53 played minutes, C R Flamengo's Tony Arósio shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Caetano França came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in C R Flamengo reached it. Edgar Costa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sílvio Luís Ortiz in the 54th minute of play. 58 minutes into the match, C R Flamengo's goalkeeper Edgar Costa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Clemente Teles. Tony Arósio's late challenge caught a Ripeira's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Tony Arósio helped the player get up and apologised. In a very dangerous position, a player in C R Flamengo fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 60th minute. Penalty! The referee gave Ripeira a penalty, 62 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Allan Dante, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of C R Flamengo's Edgar Costa. 1-2. Edgar Costa was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Sílvio Luís Ortiz showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-3 in the 66 minute of play. Deivid Cerezo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Caetano França having to interfere. In the 81stth minute of the game Dinei Perez who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but C R Flamengo's Edgar Costa was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Rafael Martins charged in rather forcefully in the 92nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Rafael Martins the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. 92 minutes into the game, one of C R Flamengo:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The goalkeeper, Edgar Costa, was totally fooled by Ripeira's Allan Dante, who 94 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Sílvio Luís Ortiz's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Edgar Costa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 99th minute of play.
