Giovanni Sanches started the match with the kick off. Chile's Luiz Fernando Barros played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Giovanni Sanches in the 5th minute of play. If Giovanni Sanches had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Victor Romero showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Arlindo Donato in the 16th minute of the match. A collision led to Estrela Vermelha Potiguar getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. Rafa Palmeira hit a great ball. Arlindo Donato struck a weak shot in the 18th minute. Victor Romero didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Chile. Victor Romero made a fantastic save in the 20th minute, when Fernão Madureira sent off a good shot on target. Fernando Meira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luiz Fernando Barros having to interfere. In the 28th minute the ball was on its way in behind Estrela Vermelha Potiguar's goalkeeper Victor Romero, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Rafa Palmeira kicked well hit freekick during the 30th minute of the match. In the 30th minute of the match Waldir Machado sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Victor Romero skillfully saved the ball. Chile's Arlindo Donato managed to work through Estrela Vermelha Potiguar's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Arlindo Donato dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. Arlindo Donato's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 41stth minute, Victor Romero skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. If Fernão Madureira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Arlindo Donato recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 44th match minute, Estrela Vermelha Potiguar was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rafa Palmeira to maneuver through the defense. Fernão Madureira spun around in front of the goal 46 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of Estrela Vermelha Potiguar's goal. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Arlindo Donato to make the kick off. Victor Romero took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fernão Madureira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Fernão Madureira got in the 54th a clear chance and fired away a hard shot against goal, but Victor Romero handled the situation perfectly and made a save by the crossbar. Arlindo Donato fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 57th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Victor Romero having to interfere. Rafa Palmeira charged in rather forcefully in the 59th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Rafa Palmeira the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Fernando Meira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luiz Fernando Barros having to interfere. Arlindo Donato sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Fernão Madureira struck a weak shot in the 69th minute. Victor Romero showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arlindo Donato, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. In the 82nd minute, Fernão Madureira made a precise shot to the right of Victor Romero. Estrela Vermelha Potiguar's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. In a very dangerous position, a player in Estrela Vermelha Potiguar fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 91st minute. Penalty! In the 93rd minute there was a penalty for Chile. Waldir Machado stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Victor Romero. 3-0. After having played for 96 minutes, Fernão Madureira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Chile's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fernão Madureira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
