Edvaldo Corrêa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 12th minute of the match, but Zé Pedro Leite made a huge save. In the 13th minute, Edvaldo Corrêa made a precise shot to the right of Zé Pedro Leite. Fluminense FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-0. 20 minutes into the match, Fluminense FC's goalkeeper Zé Pedro Leite had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Edvaldo Corrêa. The audience was convinced that Agnaldo Amorim's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Zé Pedro Leite was relentless in the 33rd minute of the game. 34 minutes into the game, Inácio Correia was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Umaita's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Fluminense FC the free kick. Ian Antunes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Márcio Cruz, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. 47 minutes into the game, one of Umaita:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 5-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Mário Jacinto stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 56th match minute, Umaita was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Agnaldo Amorim to maneuver through the defense. Umaita's supporters crossed their fingers, but Edvaldo Corrêa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Zé Pedro Leite took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edvaldo Corrêa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
