Alex Penha's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sidney Matorin read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 20th minute of play. When André Rezende, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 26 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Sidney Matorin was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. When the match clock showed 30 minutes, the score became 1-0 when André Rezende sped through Butineiros's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Sidney Matorin. Alex Penha came free with the goalkeeper in the 34th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Sidney Matorin could save by the left post. André Rezende fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sidney Matorin having to interfere. Butineiros's Sidney Matorin played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by André Rezende in the 42nd minute of play. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Samuel Vides made a kick off. Alex Penha struck a weak shot in the 51st minute. The supporters of M A R A N H Ã O A C booed when Butineiros was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Válter Custódio didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 54th play minutes Alex Penha shot 2-0, a short shot which went by Sidney Matorin and just under the crossbar into goal. Sidney Matorin was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. If Alex Penha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Sidney Matorin stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of André Rezende's shot from short distance in the 78th minute. After 80 minutes, Aírton Siqueira mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Butineiros and the M A R A N H Ã O A C players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 80 played minutes Butineiros got a freekick which was hit by Aírton Siqueira. Sidney Matorin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from André Rezende in the 85th minute of the match. Sidney Matorin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from André Rezende, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 88th minute Alex Penha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sidney Matorin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the referee ended the match the M A R A N H Ã O A C players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
