Dito Ramalho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 16th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Geovânio de Moraes came out of the goal in the 20th minute to try and stop a shot by Ipanema SS's Luís Gustavo Freitas. But to his dismay, Luís Gustavo Freitas quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. In the 24th minute the ball was on its way in behind Paulina AD's goalkeeper Geovânio de Moraes, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 26 minutes into the game, Ricardinho Guimarães cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Geovânio de Moraes was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 31 minutes into the game, Ipanema SS's Luís Gustavo Freitas nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Geovânio de Moraes made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. In the 41st minute, Nildo Freire got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Cícero Valle hit a great freekick 42 minutes into the match. Luís Gustavo Freitas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ricardinho Guimarães charged in rather forcefully in the 47th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ricardinho Guimarães the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-3.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ricardinho Guimarães was the one to do the kick off. In the 54th minute Rui Correia shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Guga de Azevedo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 63rd minute, Ricardinho Guimarães managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ipanema SS's supporters rose to their feet, but Ricardinho Guimarães was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Geovânio de Moraes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ricardinho Guimarães's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Geovânio de Moraes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 65th minute of play. Dito Ramalho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 66th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Guga de Azevedo having to interfere. 73 minutes into the match, Ipanema SS's goal looked a bit too open when Nildo Freire came free, but Guga de Azevedo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Guga de Azevedo stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Dito Ramalho's shot from short distance in the 76th minute. Cícero Valle charged in rather forcefully in the 77th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cícero Valle the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 77th minute, Cícero Valle hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Guga de Azevedo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dito Ramalho, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Ipanema SS's zone, Dito Ramalho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Guga de Azevedo came out of the goal and Dito Ramalho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Dito Ramalho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 90th match minute, Paulina AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Anselmo Martins to maneuver through the defense. Luís Gustavo Freitas could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 94th minute of the match, but Geovânio de Moraes made a huge save. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Ipanema SS had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
