Edu Cruz fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Felippe Veloso having to interfere. When Claudinho Cosme came up free with the goalie in the 20th minute, the Sousas fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Claudinho Cosme couldn't finish the play. In the 23rd minute, Edu Cruz got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Felippe Veloso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edu Cruz in the 32nd minute of play. After 33 played minutes Sousas got a freekick which was hit by Vito Freitas. After 45 played minutes Cuipiranga got a freekick which was hit by Arí Godoi. Gláuber Trevisan, 46 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Edu Cruz blasted a shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Felippe Veloso having to make a save. Abel Andrade sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Emanuel Salles to make the kick off. After a rather tough play, Cuipiranga's Frederico Jacinto got a free kick in the 52nd minute. In the 55thth minute of the game Claudinho Cosme who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Cuipiranga's Doriva Sá was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Claudinho Cosme struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. Doriva Sá didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Sousas. If Emanuel Salles had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cuipiranga's Doriva Sá played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emanuel Salles in the 60th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Cuipiranga's José Paulo Pernambucano got a free kick in the 61st minute. Edu Cruz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Felippe Veloso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Sousas booed when Cuipiranga was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Toninho Freitas didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience was convinced that Emanuel Salles's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Doriva Sá was relentless in the 79th minute of the game.
