After having played for 5 minutes, Elias Santos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FernandesFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Elias Santos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 13th minute, Jaime de Amaral hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee ignored Mumbada's protests and gave Ronaldão Gaúcho a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Mumbada getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Ronaldão Gaúcho hit a great ball. If Gilberto Pena had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Arlindo Guedes managed to get in a good position for a shot. Mumbada's supporters rose to their feet, but Arlindo Guedes was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Edmundo Batista breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 36 minutes into the match, Mumbada's goal looked a bit too open when Gilberto Pena came free, but Manoel Rezende reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Elias Santos's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Manoel Rezende read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 41st minute of play.
