In the 6thth minute of the game Diego Montenegro who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Clube Atlético Lençoense's Denílson Couto was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 7 minutes into the match, Naldo Paulista dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Andrézinho Salgado, 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Naldo Paulista in the 12th minute of play forced Stand by's goalkeeper Andrézinho Salgado to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Romário de Senna received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Denílson Couto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Diego Montenegro in the 15th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Denílson Couto saved Clube Atlético Lençoense from getting behind. An unexpected shot in the 18th minute by Naldo Paulista got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. 26 minutes into the match, Stand by's goal looked a bit too open when Naldo Paulista came free, but Andrézinho Salgado reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sérgio Veloso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Lúcio Furtado fell near the penalty area in the 30th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Stand by's protests and gave Lúcio Furtado a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Clube Atlético Lençoense booed when Stand by was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lúcio Furtado didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Clube Atlético Lençoense's zone, Romário de Senna stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Denílson Couto came out of the goal and Romário de Senna tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Nestor Dionísio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Romário de Senna stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Romário de Senna in the 53rdth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Denílson Couto, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. After some careless play in the Stand by defense, Naldo Paulista kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Andrézinho Salgado. The Stand by fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Andrézinho Salgado should have stopped the shot. Denílson Couto made an important save on a dangerous shot by Diego Montenegro in the 62nd minute. In the 63rd match minute, Clube Atlético Lençoense was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Erik Maia to maneuver through the defense. In the 68th minute, Diego Montenegro reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Denílson Couto. The goal made the score 2-1. After having played for 76 minutes, Sérgio Veloso managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Clube Atlético Lençoense's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sérgio Veloso was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Romário de Senna received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Denílson Couto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 82 played minutes Clube Atlético Lençoense got a freekick which was hit by Erik Maia. In the 83rd minute, Lúcio Furtado sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Clube Atlético Lençoense's Denílson Couto didn't even have to move. Sérgio Veloso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 95th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Stand by's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
