No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

In the 69th minute Gilberto Massa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luís Fábio Coelho saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Chicão Pires stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Zé Augusto Mesquita's shot from short distance in the 71st minute. Jorge Marques's late challenge caught a Faria's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Caruaru FC's Luís Fábio Coelho played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Noel Maranhense in the 89th minute of play. Gilberto Massa's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Luís Fábio Coelho read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 91st minute of play. When the referee ended the match the Faria players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
