The audience was convinced that Luiz Paulo Santos's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Luiz Guilherme Britto was relentless in the 13th minute of the game. Hernani Machado recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 14th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Cleto Astigar came free with the goalkeeper in the 18th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Agenor Paraense could save by the left post. In the 19th minute Hernani Machado shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luiz Guilherme Britto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Edgard Amaral fell near the penalty area in the 25th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored sport club internacional's protests and gave Edgard Amaral a yellow card for diving instead. Edgard Amaral kicked well hit freekick during the 25th minute of the match. Ibiatiara's Hernani Machado got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After some fancy dribbling in the 28th minute, Cleto Astigar managed to get in a good position for a shot. sport club internacional's supporters rose to their feet, but Cleto Astigar was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Romário Arruda couldn't finish the play. After 43 played minutes sport club internacional got a freekick which was hit by Dênis Figueiredo. Hernani Machado received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Luiz Guilherme Britto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The wind increased when Cleto Astigar made the kick off in the second half. Luiz Paulo Santos's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Luiz Guilherme Britto read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 62nd minute of play. Romário Arruda took the ball and in the 66 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Agenor Paraense. Agenor Paraense dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. After a rather tough play, Ibiatiara's Luiz Rosa got a free kick in the 76th minute. 80 minutes into the match, sport club internacional's goal looked a bit too open when Hernani Machado came free, but Luiz Guilherme Britto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 81 played minutes sport club internacional got a freekick which was hit by José Augusto de Amorim. If Cleto Astigar had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 87th minute, Luiz Rosa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Cleto Astigar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 93rd minute, Carlos Alberto Lima hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 94th minute of the match Romário Arruda sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Agenor Paraense skillfully saved the ball. Ibiatiara's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
