Nuno Amorim sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ernani Vergílio made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Américo Tasso sent off a good shot on target. Cyryl Olchowy might have been able to make a better finish in the 46th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ernani Vergílio. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Cyryl Olchowy ran back to his position shaking his head. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Manoel Penha made a kick off. Ernani Vergílio stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Nuno Amorim's shot from short distance in the 52nd minute. In the 59th match minute, Valparaiso was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cyryl Olchowy to maneuver through the defense. Valparaiso's Américo Tasso got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Américo Tasso received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Ernani Vergílio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ademar Leal during the 65th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 68 minutes into the game, João Adolfo Proença was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Xui EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Valparaiso the free kick. After a defensive mix-up in Xui EC's zone, Américo Tasso stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ernani Vergílio came out of the goal and Américo Tasso tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a little luck, Valparaiso's Elias Guerra got control of the ball when Armando Tróia tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 92nd minute Cyryl Olchowy shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ernani Vergílio saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Valparaiso booed when Xui EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 97 match minutes in a wonderful position. Robinho Koehler didn't get a good kick on the ball. There was no doubt that Valparaiso were the better team. Valparaiso's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
