The audience was convinced that Nuno Amorim's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Afonsinho Loureiro was relentless in the 15th minute of the game. William Passos charged in rather forcefully in the 19th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed William Passos the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a defensive mix-up in Caboto's zone, Américo Tasso stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Afonsinho Loureiro came out of the goal and Américo Tasso tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.

Américo Tasso might have been able to make a better finish in the 53rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Afonsinho Loureiro. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Américo Tasso ran back to his position shaking his head. Elias Guerra showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rubinho Pires, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pedro Luiz Cardozo in the 61st minute of play forced Valparaiso's goalkeeper Elias Guerra to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience was convinced that Rubinho Pires's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Elias Guerra was relentless in the 63rd minute of the game. Afonsinho Loureiro was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. When the match had gone on for 85 minutes, Nuno Amorim took a quick shot and it went in 1-2 without a chance for Afonsinho Loureiro to make any attempt to save it. Américo Tasso received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 88th minute. Afonsinho Loureiro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 90th minute, Nuno Amorim fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. After having played for 95 minutes, Américo Tasso managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Valparaiso's supporters crossed their fingers, but Américo Tasso was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Valparaiso played a much better game than Caboto and deserved their victory. The Caboto players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
