The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience thought a goal was coming when Benê Maciel got free with Flávio Pereira in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ipuassu's Joel Souza got a good chance for a goal in the 18th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Válbson Andrade took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Aleandro Perez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 21st minute Joel Souza shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Válbson Andrade saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ipuassu's Flávio Pereira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Thiago Silva in the 24th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aleandro Perez in the 25th minute of play forced Araraquara's goalkeeper Válbson Andrade to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Caio Mineiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 30 minutes into the game, Mário Saldanha was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Araraquara's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ipuassu the free kick.
