Júlio Saldanha started the match with the kick off. Geovanni Favoretto kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. Creciuna EC's João Vítor Loyola played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Waldir de Amaral in the 8th minute of play. In the 10th minute Genílson dos Santos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but João Vítor Loyola saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Genílson dos Santos came up free with the goalie in the 11th minute, the Portugal fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Genílson dos Santos couldn't finish the play. A collision led to Creciuna EC getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Geovanni Favoretto hit a great ball. Genílson dos Santos struck a weak shot in the 16th minute. João Vítor Loyola didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Portugal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Waldir de Amaral in the 21st minute of play forced Creciuna EC's goalkeeper João Vítor Loyola to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Genílson dos Santos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. João Vítor Loyola tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Júlio Saldanha during the 27th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Dorival Paiva fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without João Vítor Loyola having to interfere. João Vítor Loyola showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Waldir de Amaral in the 35th minute of the match. In the 37th minute the ball was on its way in behind Creciuna EC's goalkeeper João Vítor Loyola, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Waldir de Amaral struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. João Vítor Loyola didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Portugal. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Genílson dos Santos was the one to do the kick off. Creciuna EC's Geraldo Costa got a good chance for a goal in the 64th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Creciuna EC's Clemente Velasco got a free kick in the 68th minute. João Vítor Loyola showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Genílson dos Santos in the 75th minute of the match. 77 minutes into the match, Creciuna EC's goalkeeper João Vítor Loyola had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Waldir de Amaral. Geraldo Costa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 79th minute. Róbson Martins tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 82 minutes into the game, Geraldo Costa was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Creciuna EC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Portugal the free kick. After 82 played minutes Creciuna EC got a freekick which was hit by Geraldo Costa. In the 84thth minute of the game Genílson dos Santos who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Creciuna EC's João Vítor Loyola was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Portugal's Genílson dos Santos slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of João Vítor Loyola. That made the score 0-1 after 85 minutes of play. 92 minutes into the match, Creciuna EC's goal looked a bit too open when Genílson dos Santos came free, but João Vítor Loyola reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Creciuna EC booed when Portugal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dagoberto Ferraz didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Creciuna EC's zone, Genílson dos Santos stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. João Vítor Loyola came out of the goal and Genílson dos Santos tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Portugal played a much better game than Creciuna EC and deserved their victory. The Creciuna EC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
