After a defensive mix-up in Carijos FC's zone, Waldir de Amaral stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Basílio Gaspar came out of the goal and Waldir de Amaral tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 44th match minute, Carijos FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gildo Figueiredo to maneuver through the defense. Genílson dos Santos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Basílio Gaspar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Róbson Martins made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gildo Figueiredo in the 51st minute of play. Gualter Saldanha kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Carijos FC's zone, Genílson dos Santos stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Basílio Gaspar came out of the goal and Genílson dos Santos tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 73 played minutes, Portugal's Ronaldinho Dias shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Basílio Gaspar came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Portugal reached it. 75 minutes into the match, Portugal's goal looked a bit too open when Tomás Linares came free, but Róbson Martins reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Carijos FC booed when Portugal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 76 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dorival Paiva didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Tomás Linares came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Carijos FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomás Linares couldn't finish the play. With an all-out effort, Portugal's Basílio Gaspar threw himself towards the right post 86 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Genílson dos Santos, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Carijos FC succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Portugal had controlled the match.
