Aírton Mendonça showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Amauri Trigo in the 9th minute of the match. Toninho Pena made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Thomás do Vale in the 12th minute of play. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Aírton Mendonça showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Paulão Xavier, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. The supporters of Tainhas SC booed when Guanabara was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Thomás do Vale didn't get a good kick on the ball. Aírton Mendonça took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Amauri Trigo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 40 minutes into the game, Amauri Trigo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Aírton Mendonça was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Guanabara's Osvaldo Couto suffered a concussion after 45 minutes and had to leave the field. Walmyr de Sena hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. After recieving a nice pass, Guanabara's Cícero Palmeira tried to score from far away in the 47th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Amauri Trigo made a kick off. Aírton Mendonça showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Amauri Trigo in the 64th minute of the match. Aírton Mendonça was a little too slow when Amauri Trigo got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 67th minute. The score was now 1-2. In the 77th minute Josué Azevedo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Toninho Pena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
