The referee ignored Breiinho's protests and gave Durval Trigo a yellow card for diving instead. After 3 played minutes Breiinho got a freekick which was hit by Durval Trigo. Cristóvão Cunha showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zé Paulo Figueiredo in the 8th minute of the match. If Luciano Valladares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 12th match minute, Samambaia was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Benê de Queiroz to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 13th minute, Luciano Valladares managed to get in a good position for a shot. Breiinho's supporters rose to their feet, but Luciano Valladares was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Duda Cearense breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 17 minutes into the match, Breiinho's goal looked a bit too open when Robinho Dante came free, but Cristóvão Cunha reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Carlos Alberto Campidelis fell near the penalty area in the 17th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Breiinho's protests and gave Carlos Alberto Campidelis a yellow card for diving instead. Durval Trigo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Duda Cearense tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Luciano Valladares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 40th minute, Benê de Queiroz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Durval Trigo got free with Duda Cearense in the 46th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 47th minute, Luciano Valladares got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Luciano Valladares was the one to do the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Breiinho's Luciano Valladares sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Duda Cearense narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When Durval Trigo came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Breiinho fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Durval Trigo couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Breiinho booed when Samambaia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benê de Queiroz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Zé Paulo Figueiredo struck a weak shot in the 62nd minute. Cristóvão Cunha didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Samambaia. The goalkeeper, Cristóvão Cunha, was totally fooled by Samambaia's Gilberto Koehler, who 66 minutes into the game made a penalty shot that went in on the goalkeeper's left side. Robinho Dante sent away a hard shot on goal in the 72nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Carlos Alberto Campidelis struck a weak shot in the 75th minute. Zé Pedro Torres's late challenge caught a Samambaia's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Zé Pedro Torres helped the player get up and apologised. In the 89th minute, Zé Pedro Torres hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Robinho Dante sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
