Hermínio Quaresma stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Aluísio Quirino's shot from short distance in the 46th minute. The Mataquiri fans' excitement grew in the 47th match minute when Mataquiri's Artur Novaes looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

In the 53rd minute, Alessandro do Vale hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Durvalino Negri in the 59th minute of play forced Mataquiri's goalkeeper Humberto de Almeida to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hermínio Quaresma took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Artur Novaes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 67th minute of the match, Durvalino Negri tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Humberto de Almeida saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. After having played for 82 minutes, Artur Novaes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Mataquiri's supporters crossed their fingers, but Artur Novaes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Mataquiri booed when Chiniqua was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Naldo Prata didn't get a good kick on the ball. 90 minutes into the match, Gerson Meira had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Humberto de Almeida. Mataquiri's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Gerson Meira was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
