In the 3rd minute, Doni Quirino left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Areial fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. Doni Quirino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 7th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without João Vítor Pires having to interfere. João Vítor Pires showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Horácio de Carvalho in the 8th minute of the match. After 11 minutes, Egídio Reis mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Areial and the Cananeia EC players grew even worse after the yellow card. After some careless play in the Cananeia EC defense, Horácio de Carvalho kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of João Vítor Pires. The Cananeia EC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that João Vítor Pires should have stopped the shot. 18 minutes into the game, Otávio Seco was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Areial's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Cananeia EC the free kick. After 18 played minutes Areial got a freekick which was hit by Otávio Seco. Cananeia EC's Tomás Galvão got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. João Vítor Pires stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Horácio de Carvalho's shot from short distance in the 33rd minute. João Vítor Pires showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Doni Quirino, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. The supporters of Areial booed when Cananeia EC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Maurinho Alves didn't get a good kick on the ball. João Vítor Pires made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Horácio de Carvalho in the 37th minute of play. Diogo Leão hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. Areial were awarded a corner in the 41th minute after Cananeia EC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Thomás Catarinense took the corner. Areial's Thomás Catarinense was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but João Vítor Pires in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Ivo Maia made an important save on a dangerous shot by Tomás Galvão in the 48th minute.

53 minutes into the match, Areial's goal looked a bit too open when Cláudio Rossi came free, but Ivo Maia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Horácio de Carvalho in the 62nd minute of play forced Cananeia EC's goalkeeper João Vítor Pires to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. João Vítor Pires took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Doni Quirino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 71 minutes Cananeia EC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Thomás Catarinense who took care of the corner kick. Egídio Reis kicked well hit freekick during the 71st minute of the match. João Vítor Pires showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Horácio de Carvalho, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. In the 77th minute, Doni Quirino got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Horácio de Carvalho in the 79th minute of play forced Cananeia EC's goalkeeper João Vítor Pires to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Doni Quirino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without João Vítor Pires having to interfere. If Cláudio Rossi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tomás Galvão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ivo Maia having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Horácio de Carvalho in the 96th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck João Vítor Pires prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The Areial supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Areial would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
