Chicão Perez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Doni Quirino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 10th match minute, Areial was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Adalberto Mazza to maneuver through the defense. In the 12th minute, Otávio Seco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ivo Maia acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 13th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Elias Neves. When Areial's Horácio de Carvalho in the 16th minute got a chance for a shot 16th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Balco's goalie prevented a goal. If Horácio de Carvalho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 20 minutes, Horácio de Carvalho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Areial's supporters crossed their fingers, but Horácio de Carvalho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Doni Quirino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Doni Quirino in the 27th minute of play forced Balco's goalkeeper Chicão Perez to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 30 minutes into the match, Areial's goal looked a bit too open when Donatello Fonseca came free, but Ivo Maia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Chicão Perez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Doni Quirino in the 38th minute of play. 39 minutes into the game, Areial's Horácio de Carvalho nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Chicão Perez made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Ivo Maia stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Donatello Fonseca's shot from short distance in the 45th minute.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Horácio de Carvalho made a kick off. Chicão Perez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Horácio de Carvalho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 54th play minutes Cesinha Mattos shot 1-1, a short shot which went by Ivo Maia and just under the crossbar into goal. In the 59th minute, Egídio Reis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Areial's Ivo Maia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Donatello Fonseca in the 63rd minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Doni Quirino managed to get in a good position for a shot. Areial's supporters rose to their feet, but Doni Quirino was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Chicão Perez breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Amauri do Vale during the 67th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Balco's Amauri do Vale got a free kick in the 67th minute. Thomás Catarinense took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 67th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Chicão Perez. Balco's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Thomás Catarinense, 73 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Adalberto Mazza kicked well hit freekick during the 75th minute of the match. After recieving a nice pass, Balco's Elias Neves tried to score from far away in the 76th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. A collision led to Areial getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Thomás Catarinense hit a great ball. Ivo Maia showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cesinha Mattos, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Horácio de Carvalho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Doni Quirino could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 96th minute of the match, but Chicão Perez made a huge save. Areial were awarded a corner in the 98th minute after Balco's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Thomás Catarinense took the corner.
