The Caviuna fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gil Saraiva should have stopped the shot. After some fancy dribbling in the 25th minute, Vitório de Barros managed to get in a good position for a shot. Nilopolis's supporters rose to their feet, but Vitório de Barros was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gil Saraiva breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Claudinei Lira charged in rather forcefully in the 34th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The supporters of Nilopolis booed when Caviuna was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Claudinei Lira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gil Saraiva came out of the goal and Vitório de Barros tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The wind increased when Elivélton Fonseca made the kick off in the second half. Reinaldo Teles fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 52nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aloísio Vinhas having to interfere. A collision led to Nilopolis getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Claudinei Pitta hit a great ball. In the 66th minute Waldemar Linares shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gil Saraiva saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Reinaldo Teles came up free with the goalie in the 67th minute, the Caviuna fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Reinaldo Teles couldn't finish the play. Reinaldo Teles struck a weak shot in the 70th minute. Aloísio Vinhas didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Caviuna. Caviuna's supporters stood up full of expectation in the 85th minute of the game, when Isaltino Loureiro after an extraordinary solo performance found himself with a golden opportunity in front of Nilopolis's goal. Isaltino Loureiro was unfortunally a little to anxious and the ball went outside the goal. In the 88th minute Vitório de Barros shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gil Saraiva saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Waldemar Linares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
