Rui Magalhães showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. In the 11thth minute of the game Luís Gustavo Cerezo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Chagas SS's Horácio Pernambucano was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The supporters of Pederneira AD booed when Chagas SS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Maurício Maia didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fernando Marquez charged in rather forcefully in the 13th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Fernando Marquez the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Chagas SS's Horácio Pernambucano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luís Gustavo Cerezo in the 20th minute of play. In the 23rd match minute, Chagas SS was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Célio Lima to maneuver through the defense. Zé Marquez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rui Magalhães, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Horácio Pernambucano showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Anísio Mendes, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. Célio Lima sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With an all-out effort, Chagas SS's Zé Marquez threw himself towards the right post 35 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Rui Magalhães, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After 47 played minutes Chagas SS got a freekick which was hit by Donatello Catarinense. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Rui Magalhães to strike the kick off in the second half. After 51 minutes of play Pederneira AD's Fernando Marquez was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. The supporters of Chagas SS booed when Pederneira AD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fernando Marquez didn't get a good kick on the ball. Horácio Pernambucano made a fantastic save in the 55th minute, when Anísio Mendes sent off a good shot on target. Anísio Mendes came free with the goalkeeper in the 57th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Horácio Pernambucano could save by the left post. Zé Marquez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Célio Lima, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute.
