Wilson Reis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Samuel Nascimento in the 4th minute of play. In the 8th minute, Naldo Correia made a precise shot to the right of Nildo de Castro. Sapuparo's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Wilson Reis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Samuel Nascimento in the 11th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Naldo Correia in the 13th minute of play forced Sapuparo's goalkeeper Nildo de Castro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Francisco Almeida had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Wilson Reis was a little too slow when Samuel Nascimento got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 19th minute. The score was now 1-1. Naldo Correia recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 24th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Sapuparo's Nildo de Castro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Francisco Almeida in the 26th minute of play. 29 minutes into the match, Sapuparo's goal looked a bit too open when Francisco Almeida came free, but Nildo de Castro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sapuparo's Nildo de Castro played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Francisco Almeida in the 31st minute of play. After 32 played minutes Sapuparo got a freekick which was hit by Sílvio Luiz Félix. In the 33rd minute of the match Matías Saldanha shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Nildo de Castro showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Naldo Correia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nildo de Castro having to interfere. In the 38th minute, Válter Fantini hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In a very dangerous position, a player in Sapuparo fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 39th minute. Penalty! Naldo Correia took the ball and in the 45 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Nildo de Castro. Nildo de Castro dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Anselmo Vides was the one to do the kick off. In the 55th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sapuparo's goalkeeper Nildo de Castro, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Anselmo Vides in the 57th minute of play forced Mateiro's goalkeeper Wilson Reis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jânio Faria during the 66th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 67th minute, Jânio Faria hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Hortêncio Pimenta was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 68th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Anselmo Vides in the 72nd minute of play forced Mateiro's goalkeeper Wilson Reis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nildo de Castro made an important save on a dangerous shot by Francisco Almeida in the 75th minute. After 86 played minutes Mateiro got a freekick which was hit by João Paulo Zanette. After a defensive mix-up in Mateiro's zone, Benjamin de Alcântara stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wilson Reis came out of the goal and Benjamin de Alcântara tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 93 minutes into the match, Sapuparo's Anselmo Vides sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Wilson Reis narrowly saved just below the crossbar.
