The crowd rose to their feet as Adolfo Severo kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Zacarias Gomes. That made the score 1-0 in the 5 minute of play. Alfredo Meireles took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Percival de Medeiros, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 14 minutes into the match, Percival de Medeiros notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Sucuru's Alfredo Meireles. Alfredo Meireles was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Percival de Medeiros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 17th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After having played for 19 minutes, Marcos Lara managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Brilhantina's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marcos Lara was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Marcos Lara sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Percival de Medeiros recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 27th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Percival de Medeiros sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Basílio Seco recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, Sucuru's Dário Pinho got a free kick in the 40th minute. It was beautiful to see Brilhantina's Juan Senna in action when he in the 42nd minute dribbled his way through a couple of opponents and the fired away a shot from almost standing still. First the ball seemed to get in, but turned out to be on the outside of the net. A great chance! After a defensive mix-up in Sucuru's zone, Percival de Medeiros stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alfredo Meireles came out of the goal and Percival de Medeiros tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Marcos Lara stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sidnei Senna in the 51st minute of play forced Brilhantina's goalkeeper Zacarias Gomes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. João Paulo Alvarenga charged in rather forcefully in the 55th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed João Paulo Alvarenga the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 54th minute, one of Brilhantina:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Brilhantina. The referee gave Sucuru a penalty, 57 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Dário Pinho, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Brilhantina's Zacarias Gomes. 2-1. Percival de Medeiros recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 61st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Alfredo Meireles showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marcos Lara in the 62nd minute of the match. Sucuru's Alfredo Meireles played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Marcos Lara in the 66th minute of play. Marcos Lara received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Alfredo Meireles tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Percival de Medeiros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 74th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Sidnei Senna had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Brilhantina's Zacarias Gomes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Basílio Seco in the 84th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 86th minute, Marcos Lara managed to get in a good position for a shot. Brilhantina's supporters rose to their feet, but Marcos Lara was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Alfredo Meireles breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Brilhantina booed when Sucuru was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Valdomiro Linares didn't get a good kick on the ball. 89 minutes into the game, Juninho Loyola was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Brilhantina's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sucuru the free kick. In the 89th match minute, Brilhantina was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juninho Loyola to maneuver through the defense. After 95 played minutes Sucuru got a freekick which was hit by Sidnei Senna. Marcelo Gomes's late challenge caught a Brilhantina's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Marcelo Gomes helped the player get up and apologised. In the 97th match minute, Sucuru was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marcelo Gomes to maneuver through the defense. The Sucuru support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
