But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Décio Favoretto couldn't finish the play. Assare EC's João Paulo Ferreira played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Durvalino Tepedino in the 41st minute of play. Itamuri's Nilson Messias proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 43rd minute of the match, managed to save Itamuri from getting a goal against them. Nilson Messias was out of position in the 44 minute of play, and Noel Goiano capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Noel Goiano really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Noel Goiano was the one to do the kick off.
