The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. If Eugênio Quadros had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 4th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After some careless play in the Cafe AD defense, Amílton Trigo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Vicente Novaes. The Cafe AD fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Vicente Novaes should have stopped the shot. In the 20th minute, Albertinho Sabóia hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 21st play minutes Eugênio Quadros shot 1-1, a short shot which went by Jardel Furtado and just under the crossbar into goal. In the 28th match minute, Quevedos AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Carlos Augusto Neiva to maneuver through the defense. Vicente Novaes showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Willian Ribeiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Juvenal Cordeiro during the 32nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 32nd match minute, Quevedos AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juvenal Cordeiro to maneuver through the defense. David Mello was extremely unlucky when he, in the 40th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. Quevedos AD's Willian Ribeiro got a good chance for a goal in the 42nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The wind increased when Amílton Trigo made the kick off in the second half. After 64 played minutes Quevedos AD got a freekick which was hit by Carlos Augusto Neiva. Jardel Furtado stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of David Mello's shot from short distance in the 67th minute. The supporters of Cafe AD booed when Quevedos AD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 70 match minutes in a wonderful position. Albertinho Sabóia didn't get a good kick on the ball. David Mello received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Jardel Furtado tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match clock showed 74 minutes, the score became 3-1 when David Mello sped through Quevedos AD's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Jardel Furtado. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Eugênio Quadros managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cafe AD's supporters rose to their feet, but Eugênio Quadros was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jardel Furtado breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Cafe AD's Eugênio Quadros got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Marcinho Teles's late challenge caught a Quevedos AD's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Marcinho Teles helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Quevedos AD booed when Cafe AD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcinho Teles didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 86th match minute, Cafe AD was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bebeto Figueiredo to maneuver through the defense. Vicente Novaes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Amílton Trigo in the 88th minute of play. Jardel Furtado showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from David Mello, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. Eugênio Quadros fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jardel Furtado having to interfere. Cafe AD's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
