But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Celsinho Loureiro couldn't finish the play. In the 38th minute, Carlos Eduardo Arósio got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After some careless play in the Mendes SC defense, Celsinho Loureiro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Sérgio de Azevedo. The Mendes SC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sérgio de Azevedo should have stopped the shot. The Mendes SC players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Matarandiba SC were winning 0-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Celsinho Loureiro stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Oswaldo Bezerra hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Gernando Tasso showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Raimundo Severo in the 55th minute of the match. Sérgio de Azevedo was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Celsinho Loureiro showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-2 in the 59 minute of play. Jeferson Pontes kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. In the 66th minute, Matarandiba SC's Celsinho Loureiro ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Sérgio de Azevedo. Sérgio de Azevedo yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-3. After a defensive mix-up in Mendes SC's zone, Dário Miranda stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sérgio de Azevedo came out of the goal and Dário Miranda tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Mendes SC's Ramón Breckenfeld got a free kick in the 71st minute. Jonas Cearense's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sérgio de Azevedo read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 72nd minute of play. Gernando Tasso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Donato do Nascimento, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 81st minute, Raimundo Severo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Dário Miranda in the 84thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Sérgio de Azevedo, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. After 87 played minutes Mendes SC got a freekick which was hit by Percy Souto. Celsinho Loureiro struck a weak shot in the 89th minute. Sérgio de Azevedo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Matarandiba SC. Dário Miranda fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sérgio de Azevedo having to interfere. The Matarandiba SC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Matarandiba SC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
