When Afonso Araújo came up free with the goalie in the 10th minute, the Pereira fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Afonso Araújo couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, Pereira's Hortêncio Albuquerque got a free kick in the 11th minute. After having played for 17 minutes, Afonso Araújo managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Pereira's supporters crossed their fingers, but Afonso Araújo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lauro Gerber in the 22nd minute of play forced Coady's goalkeeper Remo Neves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
