The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 3rd minute of the game. One of Mapia:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Herveiras:s goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Arlindo Mendes during the 10th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Herveiras booed when Mapia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Arlindo Mendes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Herveiras's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Francisco da Costa in the 13th minute. If Tostão Pinho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Paulo José Pernambucano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. When Marquinhos Salgado came up free with the goalie in the 25th minute, the Mapia fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Marquinhos Salgado couldn't finish the play. In the 27th minute, Tostão Pinho ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Aleandro Tinoco was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. Aleandro Tinoco showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rony Alagoano, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Francisco da Costa during the 32nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The referee gave Mapia a penalty, 35 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Telmo Alcântara, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Herveiras's Amadeu Negri. 1-3. After a defensive mix-up in Mapia's zone, Tostão Pinho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Aleandro Tinoco came out of the goal and Tostão Pinho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Tostão Pinho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rony Alagoano in the 42nd minute of play forced Mapia's goalkeeper Aleandro Tinoco to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

The referee ignored Mapia's protests and gave Marquinhos Salgado a yellow card for diving instead. Herveiras's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Amadeu Negri was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 90th minute, Carlos Quirino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Aleandro Tinoco took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rony Alagoano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tostão Pinho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Aleandro Tinoco having to interfere. Rony Alagoano's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Aleandro Tinoco read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 96th minute of play. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Herveiras had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
