The referee ignored Araponga's protests and gave Chico Sabóia a yellow card for diving instead. In the 4th minute, Chico Sabóia hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mário Andrade in the 6th minute of play forced Araponga's goalkeeper Caio Neto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Adriano Damião sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Mário Andrade fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Caio Neto having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mário Andrade in the 19th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Caio Neto prevented the ball from getting in the gole. 24 minutes into the match, Araponga's goal looked a bit too open when Adriano Damião came free, but Caio Neto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Caio Neto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adriano Damião in the 34th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Curupati's zone, Anísio Torres stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Flavinho Eger came out of the goal and Anísio Torres tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Adriano Damião struck a weak shot in the 44th minute. Caio Neto didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Curupati. Caio Neto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adriano Damião, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Anísio Torres to make the kick off. If Mário Andrade had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Anísio Torres fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 63rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Flavinho Eger having to interfere. The Curupati supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Curupati would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
