Umberto Marinho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 7th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Valdir Pereira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 22 minutes into the match, Mombuca's goal looked a bit too open when Hílton Travassos came free, but Perivaldo Silveira reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to Guajuru getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Carlos Fernando Leal hit a great ball. Augusto Meirelles missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 27 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Dito Souza right hand side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hílton Travassos in the 31st minute of play forced Mombuca's goalkeeper Perivaldo Silveira to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Mombuca defense, Hílton Travassos kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Perivaldo Silveira. The Mombuca fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Perivaldo Silveira should have stopped the shot. A hard shot by Osvaldinho Velloso from long distance, 39 minutes into the match, got Dito Souza's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Umberto Marinho got free with Dito Souza in the 40th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Augusto Meirelles during the 42nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Guajuru booed when Mombuca was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Augusto Meirelles didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 44th minute of the match Alfredo Araújo shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Perivaldo Silveira showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Perivaldo Silveira took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hílton Travassos, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Hílton Travassos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Hílton Travassos made a kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Mombuca's zone, José Augusto Seco stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Perivaldo Silveira came out of the goal and José Augusto Seco tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Dito Souza took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Valdir Pereira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When José Augusto Seco came up free with the goalie in the 74th minute, the Guajuru fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that José Augusto Seco couldn't finish the play. Valdir Pereira fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dito Souza having to interfere. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Valdir Pereira in the 86th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dito Souza prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a defensive mix-up in Guajuru's zone, Valdir Pereira stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dito Souza came out of the goal and Valdir Pereira tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Guajuru's Dito Souza played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Umberto Marinho in the 95th minute of play.
